Realized these art threads a bit late...but the drawings and ideas are really awe-inspiring all around. Lavish 2D interior pictures is what Blade of Destiny needs to capture the mood of past, while providing eye-candy.
Currently I really like 3D towns and the look of buildings (which will improve due to promise of upcoming patch). But converting interiors to 2D pictures adding 2D backgrounds pictures or small 2D portraits to some events...despite all the hardship, would be a winning move and could make people drool on the screen. In my opinion, 3D NPCs...even in heavily graphic invested games like Skyrim, looks fake and artificial...but paintings and pictures always stay in mind. One of the true classics of old, King of Dragon Pass is heavily based on lavish background and event pictures along a text-event driven interface.
But of course there might be technical difficulties always and lack of talented artists willing to contribute...in that light a Kickstarter-ish approach to get things done, backed with solid guarentee and guidance from developers on 2D issue, would make the game a true classic. (It is already a classic!

but I always perceive this 2013 model game as more then a remake

)
This is my 2 farthings on this issue.
