In my humble opinion as a community we can be proactive on the matter of 2D interiors and event scenery/small event portraits. If the necessary infrastructure to put 2D images into the game will be possible(since the answer to it positive), then why not make it a professional contribution?
We had or still have extremely talented forum members on drawing pictures, but as a matter of fact people have jobs and it would be unfair to ask them to contribute with no gain since they should survive as well. So, with a post-release Kickstarter-ish approach(I am not well-versed in funding site types to be honest but the funding should be monitored well.) we could fund a talented and interested graphic artist to spend time on images in coordination with the forum community and developers.
One good side of a strong community, is to be able to put things together let it be content or monetary support to some features. I like 3D while roaming the beautiful environments, in Arkania or pretty much in many games I am not a fan of interiors. This game really deserves stunning 2D images at interiors and at some encounters(As an example I want to see a lavish picture of a boar and some vaguely drawn heroes trying to aim a bow at it from bushes at the background of text. And maybe supported with some hearty hunting music) , and it needs very much so. Nobody remembers the 3D sprites and they are always doomed to be forgotten. But on the other hand 2D pictures have the spirit of a creative mind and they are more memorable when supported with the "right music track."
In my past I have supported some games which were purely in text, and while I believe well-written text can make a good game when enhanced with -representative- 2D images and good music the pleasure you get from it, magnifies. By now I would not hesitate to donate 50-100 USD to such a campaign and maybe even more depending on the improvement.
How the process would happen?
-The funds should be monitored carefully by someone who can give full details to the community on spenditure. (Can be the developer or someone who will make sure the funds go to the right people and place)
-Everyone would contribute due to their interest, donating 5-10 USD to such a cause or depending on their idealism and budget maybe even more. And nobody would get poor by 5-10 USD, but as a community we could gather a good amount of money to fund what we wish by not overexerting our pocket.
-A dedicated thread would be opened for the graphic artist to post about the development of sceneries and perhaps a poll can be done to implement what kind of scenes are in priority.
-Meanwhile the developers could get the infrastructure of the game for such an overhaul of interiors and events, while doing their usual bugfixes and adding content.
-And finally the process of incorporating those stunning images start from patch to patch.
Gains for the donaters and community
-First of all, 3D interiors changing with 2D pictures would enhance the game quality and make many people(and idealists like me

) happy. The negative reviews and posts would change for the positive and game's slightly tarnished reputation would be restored.
-It would attract more buyers to the game and the community grows up. More the merrier.
-That would give a promising base to the future installments and guarentee the financial well-being of the developers. (With increased sales, also increased profits) And a good market for the Arkania game is created.
-And most importantly, one day we would fill our cup of coffee and walk through Northlands with a merry band of adventurers who soon faces an untimely demise at a mountain pass but they would not be sorry for they have seen a brilliant scene in 2D
Conclusion: These are my thoughts on the issue, let us discuss such possibilities. I would like to hear the community on this.
